What's NEXT???

1.  The one that started it all... My 1st Ultra Marathon. ( 1st Cebu Ultramarathon, 11/2010)

2.  The "Legend of Aang" inspired cut ... Courtesy of my ever supporting cool wife (including #'s 3 & 4) (Kawasan Falls Marathon, 7/2011)

Battle for 3rd _ Table Tennis

1st time I used my own paddle in this tournament and it didn't failed me.  Won the 3rd place but a very competitive one:

Here are the scores:
     1st set         - 21 vs 19 - W
     2nd set        - 23 vs 20 - L
     3rd set        - 16 vs 21 - L
     4th set        - 15 vs 21 - W
     5th set        - 21 vs 18 - W

I asked my wife to take a video of the 1st set and all i can say is, "dako-a na sad nako oi".

I won!!!

For the 1st time in my 8 years of stay in Lear that I was able to beat Edmund, MEPZ current champion in tabletennis.  Though it was just a friendly match but for me it was a testament of how far I've gone as a table tennis player.  It was also a consolation since I just lost the semi-final round and have to wait for my opponent in the battle for 3rd place.  The one who beat me would be my everyday inspiration from now on.  I still have to beat him in a match.  It was not long ago that many of the top players here wouldn't play with me because I'm not good/competitive enough.  Hope I won't be satisfied with this achievement and would try my best to learn everyday.

BTW, I was  using a PAN ASIA Butterfly hobby bat.  It was not a very high end paddle but works well for me than the customized ones.

PingPong, anyone?

It’s one sport that I really love doing.  I have no formal training, don’t even know the famous players of this sport but have have this bizarre yet effective style that works pretty well.  Re-learning the basics thru YOUTUBE and practice with officemate indeed improved my game.

Way back when I was in the fourth grade, my family moved into our new house.  I was first introduced to this sport (much more of a past time) by the carpenters building our home.  Back on those days, the paddle/racket we had was made from cut-out “plywood”.  I can still remember the brand of our pingpong ball “Pioneer” and it worth 7php back then.  It gets easily broken not because it was made of weak material but most likely because of the uncontrollable wooden pounding… hahaha.. The net was made of the so called “net bag” while our table tennis table had a way out-of-standard dimensions.  I would have loved to continue playing pingpong, yet my brothers easily got bored of it and played other games.  To make the story short, I transferred to the city when I was in high school.  I couldn't recall a single moment that I ever held a racket within that four-year stay.  When I was in college, our PE class should have been allotted  for table tennis.  However, during that semester, one class was offered with "Arnis".  And unfortunately, I was in that class. The company where I first employed had this nice table tennis amenities where most of the players had their own customized paddles.  I now learned to use them and understood that a good table tennis player always beats the average player but great players beat great players because this have those more advanced rubbers.  Hope to customize my own soon. JJJ

By the way, I just thought of writing this blog because I just won my first 2 games in our company’s table tennis tournament.  I was trying to understand how I come to love this sport .  Then I realized that it just fits my character.  The very reason why I loved long distance running might also be the reason why I love PingPong.  I just don’t get BORED easily.  Doing things over and over and over and over maybe weird to some, but not to me.  I still play pacman or tetris like I just learned how to the play the game.  So that’s it, just sharing some discoveries I found about myself.  Hope I could quality for the semis or even win the tournament, fingers crossed.

Myself 9 months ago...

It's been 9 months since I got this first picture taken.  I'm so happy I was able to cut down at least 18lbs a year ago.  Hope I could maintain it and have firm/toned muscles this year. I'm so excited to start biking soon.

Gym and Biking

Gym:  I plan to start tomorrow.  I don't know what to expect but will use this experience to force myself to do core conditioning and strenghtening.  I do admit that I've tried reading some articles about core training stuffs but end up getting bored and lazy.  I have my photo taken nalf naked today by my wife as a "before" for this goal of having "six pack tummy" someday (libre lang ang mangarap) but who knows with proper and deligent training I would hopefully get this as a Xmas gift for myself... hahahaha.

Bike: Well, I just received an ebook from a friend "BIKE_REPAIR_MANUAL" by C H R I S  S I D W E L L SLet me know if you're interested and i'll send you a copy... :-)  I just shared her my story that I'd like to try working another set of muscle aside from running and biking was a possibility.  She then told me about her friend who's into mountain biking and she even send me an email about this person selling his bike.  Wait, I need to make some research first since this one could become a vise, a very expensive vise.  I want to make it an investment that I would not regret in the future so hinay-hinay lang.  Back to reading...  Bye...

I'm 30 na...(01/07/2011)

Took a bath and I heard a soft sounding knock from the door.
"Dada, ba-bath ko", Zyle said.

He might have figured out that it was my birthday and that he wanted me to feel special on this day by just spending the first hour of my day with him.  He's a sweet child.

Kissed the kids goodbye before warming-up our motorcycle before going to work.

Around 11AM, as a so-called trend already, my ESD-NA team prepared a dine out treat at Mooon Cafe.  Originally they let me choose a certain restaurant where I would like to go and Don Henrico @ Ayala Center Cebu was my choice since I was also planning to carbo-load in preparation for the Cebu City Marathon.  Unfortunately, due to an unavoidable circumstances we have to change that to Mooon Cafe instead.  But I still got my yummy and saucy carbonara at Mooon Cafe.

Got back at the office with bloated stomach. :-)

Later I received a compilation of email greetings from most of my colleagues and here are some of those:

Then coincidentally, that day was also the annual PE (Physical Exam) for all the January birthday celebrants.  Aside from the common tests (CDC, X-ray, Urinalysis, Physical Check-up) I did ask for a Blood Uric Acid test as suggested by Doc Lim for my nagging ankle injury.  Hopefully the result wouldn't show indication of a possible signs of arthritis.

Then at 5PM, again coincidentally, a 1st Friday mass was held at the canteen which I attended.

Earlier that day, Rina told me that we would meet with my mother and siblings to have a small get-together dinner at Ayala Center Cebu.  I also knew that we do not have any cash and it would be easier to use the credit card to pay for our dinner.  But when I was about to make a right turn from the MEPZ gate, she halted me and said that we need to go home first so we could bring the kids along and take a cab instead.  It made me a bit angry because it was already 8 PM and that they might already be hungry waiting for us in Ayala.  I didn't talk to her while we are still mobiling to let her know that I was upset.  When we arrived at our house, I was surprised to see 3 of my office mates there.  One was icing a cake and the other two were trying to blow the balloons.  I was worried because I know that we did not prepare anything.  Seconds later,  a cab stopped by and I saw my mother,my brother Niel and my 2 nieces getting off the taxi.  That's when I knew that all along they have planned to surprise me by preparing something for my 30th birthday.  My father also called and greeted me.  Then my 2 other brothers came and I was very happy that they made my 30th bday very very special.  Thank you all for these Wonderful Surprise...  most especially to my beautiful wife Rina...  Mwahh..  I love you so much..

Mohawk, Anyone?

from Wikipedia

I'll try to sport one on the 1st Cebu Ultramarathon run this coming November 27 and have it "skinned" totally after the race.

For a change.

I had a dream

It's the first time that I had a dream being in running race. I did not know, though, how I placed in that race but I could still picture out that I was fighting to get in the correct "pose" like in the "Pose Technique"  I guess, while I was going down and up the hills. :-)

Oct. 31's-Citigym Halloween Run

To those of you joining tomorrow's Citigym Halloween Run, "good night, sweet dreams and see you at the starting line...".

I was able to upgrade my 12K registration for the longer 21K run.  I failed to run today because of family obligations.  :-) so might as well run the 21K and try to beat my PR (02:11:00).  Crossing my fingers, coz I'm using my old NB shoes this time which happens to be the one I used for the 12K last March Citirun 2010.

Prep for Ultra

Did a 7.5K slow pace run today.

Unfortunately, I've found out that Monday's and Friday's should be allocated as "rest days" in preparation for 50K UltraMarathons. I must admit I haven't prepared in advance for my training, I just thought that a 2-month training is enough. Well, I'm perfectly wrong. In fact, most of the sites or literatures I've read suggests that I need at least 16 weeks to train and now I'm 6 weeks late already. Plus the fact that I just had a 2-week lay-off. What a way to start.

Note: I haven't run longer than 21K.

But this is it, there's no turning back now. Anyway, my goal is not to be one of the top finishers but an "Ultra Marathon" finisher. Since it would be Cebu's first ultra, might as well be part of it.

Right now, I'm trying to decide which of these Training Plans I should embark into. I have 5 options.

Anyway, I will see to it that my brother Ian Roy would agree as my "solo crew" on the race day.
